The FUJITSU-JAIMS Case Competition was an amazing opportunity orchestrated by our advisor Dr. Constancio Paranal III, who leveraged his strong international ties to offer our members this unique experience. With less than a week from the start of the competition, our BESTies spent numerous hours with three FUJITSU professionals trying to design and develop an innovative solution to addressing environmental problems that take place in Hawai'i. Each team consists of two BESTies and several FUJITSU professionals. Teams have worked hard trying to incorporate technology and coming up with smart and profitable business plans to transform Hawai'i into a better future.
Our BESTies, Alexandria Tyau and Jordan Abanto, both worked extremely hard with FUJITSU professionals to come up with an idea to promote the use of reusable food trays instead of the inexpensive styrofoam plates that the majority of restaurants are currently using. Their team did an excellent job explaining their business plan from ground up, along with confidently answering the judge's difficult questions towards the end of the presentation.
The Fujitsu- JAIMS case competition provided the opportunity to connect classroom knowledge with real world applications. It enabled me to think creatively, provided valuable networking and connections, and gave me my first glimpse into case competitions. "I now see how I can leverage my Shidler education to improve my community and make a difference in the world around me."
- Alex Tyau
"The case competition has allowed me to apply what I have learned within the classroom in order to address issues businesses may face in Hawaii. I was fortunate to also have the opportunity to work with the employees from Japan, giving me a perspective on how interconnected we are on a global scale." - Jordan Abanto
